This edition of Around the World in 80 Metrics is a fun one for me, because it includes one of my favorite up and coming players from outside Europe! That’s none other than Mohamed Reda, one of the best young creative & progressive midfielders in Africa (in my opinion).
Reda has just moved from Future FC (love that name) to Pyramids, when people were expecting him to move to Al-Ahly!
Joining him is fellow Egyptian, right winger Mostafa Saad: who as he gets more eyes on him will be called the “next Salah” I’m sure, but that’s not exactly right… because while he’s got a good shot on him, Saad’s main strength is his incredible vision. Particularly when cutting into half-space from the wing, he’s able to see much more than you’d expect. If he can improve his placement on some of these passes, there’s no doubt in my mind he’d move to Europe for a good fee.
Wrapping up we have Liga MX talent Érick Sánchez of Pachuca, a fairly well-rounded box to box CM with a good shot on him as well. Sánchez has already earned nearly 20 El Tri caps so far, and narrowly missed out on the 2022 World Cup squad. He’s ready for Europe now, and could be great as a box to box player, but could also be molded into either a more attacking or defensive role.
Enjoy these reports, and stay tuned for more!
